Here is the future of computing: Solid state memory (no disk drives); neural interfaces ); batteries that recharge by motion created as you walk ; holographic displays (no monitor); smart communication cards that know your data plan, track your usage and find the cheapest route automatically; GPS navigation systems that know your driving habits and automatically alert you to traffic issues and call you with alternatives.
Every disaster is quickly followed with news reports of things not working. Infrastructure being the first to be highlighted with power, transit systems, and cellular service all leading the list. Plan B, that is, your disaster recovery plan, does not always work.
I have to admit that at this time of year, I start to get excited. My anticipation is building for the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in January 2013. I have my tickets, room, and I'm ready to go!
