Bank of America has launched a $250 billion initiative to finance US infrastructure projects, with a particular focus on artificial intelligence, data centers, energy and semiconductors.
The Critical Infrastructure Finance Initiative will deploy the capital over 18 months through July 2027, using lending, investment, capital markets and advisory services for projects across the public and private sectors.
Alongside technology and energy infrastructure, the program will support critical minerals and core infrastructure such as transportation, water and natural gas systems. According to Bank of America, the initiative could help generate tens of thousands of jobs as investment in US infrastructure accelerates.
The move comes amid growing demand for infrastructure investment concurrent to the expansion of AI, which is increasing requirements for computing capacity and the power needed to operate data centers.
Karen Fang, Bank of America’s global head of infrastructure, said the initiative would allow the bank to raise capital efficiently while supporting longer-term economic benefits through integrated financing solutions.
“Meeting America’s growing infrastructure needs requires mobilizing capital at scale across increasingly interconnected sectors,” Fang noted.
The bank’s move is arguably part of a broader shift among Wall Street firms toward financing infrastructure crucial to US economic and technological competitiveness, projects that are increasingly searching for substantial private-sector capital.
The announcement comes in light of similar moves by other major US financial institutions. JPMorgan Chase has announced a $1.5 trillion initiative focused on US security and resilience, while Morgan Stanley has launched a $1.5 trillion program targeting US innovation and infrastructure.
